The Founder

Francois Ouimet

François Ouimet is a multi-talented musician: choir conductor, teacher, guitar player and musical arranger, he is at ease with styles as varied as Renaissance music, jazz, Gospel and contemporary music.

He conducts the University Chorus of the McGill Schulich School of Music.

In the midst of the 1998 ice storm, he founded the Chœur de chambre Tactus, which he led until Summer 2011. He also conducts the vocal ensemble Les Voix Ferrées. Those two groups have won prizes and made numerous appearances on radio and television.

He is often asked across Canada to conduct and give talks and masterclasses on choral singing. Over the last few years, he has been co-director of the Cammac summer camp and he taught music history at the Thomas More Institute. François Ouimet has a Master's degree in choral conducting.

In the Summer of 2011, after 14 years at the helm, François Ouimet retired from Tactus.
